The advantages of having a more secure computer are that you'll have more peace of mind in knowing that your personal information is safe, and you can also use their computer more freely without having to worry about anyone else seeing what you're doing.  The downside to this is that it can be costly. For example, installing a firewall might cost $50-$100, but the peace of mind it provides will last for years to come.
