Hello aspirant!

Here are the perks of belonging to OBC or Other Backward Classses :

  1. The cutoff for OBC category in NEET UG 2020 is 146-113 marks, whereas it is 720-147 for general category. So this means, for a general candidate to qualify NEET, he/she must score a minimum of 147 marks, whereas it 113 for a OBC candidate.
  2. Around 27% of the seats in government colleges(MBBS,BDS, BAMS ,BHMS etc) are reserved for candidates belonging to OBC category, in contrast to 7.5% for ST and 15% for SC candidates.
  3. The cutoff for OBC categories in colleges is lesser than unreserved category. Although the difference is not too high, it is indeed a perk.
  4. The counselling fee, tuition fee and the college fee is lesser for OBC than General category. In private colleges, it depends on the college management.
  5. OBC candidates can apply for schlarships both at the National level and the state level such as National Fellowship for OBC, Post -Matrix scholarships for OBC etc. There are also some non governmental scholarships meant to encouage students of OBC category in their studies.

Yadav caste do come under OBC list. However, it is not included in all states. States of Karnataka, Delhi, Haryana, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Up, West bengal, MP, Jharkhand, Orissa and Rajasthan has Yadav under OBC. It is recommened to check in the official website of NCBC. Also, it depends on income also. If your annual income is more than 8LPA, then you will not be considered under Non-Creamy Layer(NCL).
