Placement and package is the thing which you will decide . Your personality and skills will decide it.
And about the statistics it depends upon the college.
Some have average package of 5-7 lakhs normally.
But you can earn more depending upon your skills and experience.
But the companies which offer high packages in starting mostly come in top ranking nit because they know that they would get the good and sharp students from only top nit s.

 About the placements package, it depends only on the skill and talent of student. It doesn't even have a far relation with branch. Thus the companies used to come at NIT Trichy are student specific rather then branch specific. placemets is around 90 % in mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering  and anual package varies from 5-9 lakhs
