Category rank is the rank you achieved in you category. Suppose you got rank 20 among all  students buy it might differ when it is included in your category.

If you are OBC then it might be ranked as 5 or if u are sc/St it might be first rank (example).

Category rank range is your rank in a specific or particular category. Suppose, you have scored 100 marks out of 120 marks and your overall rank is 20 out of 120 total students it may not be the same in your category.

For competitive exams like JEE,CET,GATE,etc there are students who apply from general category, SC/ST,OBC,NT, other reserved minority students and for example you are a OBC student so out of 120 say 10 are OBC with a score of 100 you may be ranked 1 in your category,here OBC. So overall you will be 20th ranked person but in your category you may be 1st.

Category rank range means like for example if you come under OBC so your category will be OBC and you got 100 rank is you will in between 100-150 so that would be your range where you lie as in term of rank 100-150is the range.
