Hello,

Biodiversity Hotspots are area that are extremely rich in species, have high endemism and are under constant threat. The term hotpot was given by Mayer. These Biodiversity Hotspot covers less than 2% of the world's land area which have 50% terrestrial biodiversity.

Characteristics of Biodiversity Hotspots are -

  • Richness in Biodiversity
  • High Level of Endemism
  • Constant threat of extinction and habitat destruction

There are 25 Hotspots in world out of which 2 are in India.
