Dear Aspirant,

In India, a Chartered Engineer is generally an Engineering qualified person and is additionally accredited as a Chartered Engineer by the Institution of Engineers (India).

In order to obtain a Chartered Engineer certificate, the person concerned must first be a Corporate Life Member of the Institution of Engineers complying with the eligibility requirements. Such a corporate life member shall apply to IE (India) on the prescribed application for payment of the prescribed fees.

Eligibility Criteria for Chartered Engineers :-

Any Life Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers (India) may appoint himself as a Chartered Engineer. A special certificate identifying as a Chartered Engineer may be obtained by payment of Rs. 7500/-only.

Certification is issued in compliance with certain qualifying requirements, the holders of the credential have to demonstrate a minimum of experience and expertise. That could get them more company and more clientele. Chartered Engineers are responsible for the development of technical solutions to problems, the development of new technology and enhanced design and performance in the area of engineering applications. These are also responsible for reviewing and determining the feasibility of current engineering and construction projects and improvements, etc.

Chartered Engineer is a Professional Engineer. In many countries, Professional Engineers are referred to as Chartered Engineers. Contemporarily, Chartered Engineers (Professional Engineers) are Degree-Holders, who have professional experience by training and practice through measuring the skills acquired in their respective fields. The designation Chartered Engineer (Professional Engineer) is covered by civil law and is a terminal engineering credential. The IIE (Indian Institute of Engineers) governs professional engineers.

Chartered Engineers are distinguished by their ability to develop effective solutions to engineering problems using new or existing technology through innovation. Chartered Engineers are engaged in multi-sectoral, techno-commercial leadership activities. Chartered Engineers (Professional Engineers) are entitled to use the suffix "C.Eng.(India)/P.Eng.(India)" after their names as a means of improving their rank with the Indian Institution of Engineers.
