Democracy in simple means freedom and equality. India is a democratic country. In means democracy is a system which is elected by the people just like government. People have right and freedom to choose a government body. Example, people have right to select their own government body through voting. Coming to why are you democratic, India itself a democratic country, which gives Freedom, right to all its people to perform there activities. If the country isn't a democratic country, you won't be having any rights, freedom, equality to perform any thing in a country. Example, North Korea is a dictatorship country, people in Korea have no rights, freedom to perform any activity.
