SDM is Sub Divisional Magistrate whereas ASDM is Assistant Sub Divisional Magistrate. SDM is a higher Post than ASDM and is often alloted to IAS Officers as their First Assignment (Entry Level), whereas ASDM Positions are one of the Highest Positions for State Administrative Service Officers, however are below IAS SDM Positions.
