Hii Ankita..
IIT is acronym for Indian Institute of Technology and there are now 23 IITs in India on a mission to impart quality education in engineering of various types.

The vision for establishing IITs was to build some world class institutions in India so that our people can learn and become good in this field.

Also, India's economy was in its nacent stages because few years after independence, first IIT, IIT Kharagpur was built. The main focus was to build engineers which can later on work in manufacturing sectors, start new companies and employ others, basically, make a huge contribution in the Indian economy.

But, the thinking never changed as till now in most of the IITs, we are studying that same 1520 year old syllabus and when we go for internships, we have to hear that What are you learning? This technology is outdated a long time ago and many other things on the same lines.

India's government thinking is very slow in regards to its educational institutions, especially IITs because I gave an example above.

From last two years, syllabus has been changed and let's see what happens.

Now, IIT should make world class engineers (literally), but it is left behind by the world class mark by a large gap. This is because most of the students take jobs in analytics, consulting, finance, operations, product analyst and many more roles which have no relation to engineering in literal terms.

We are not encouraged to build products, we are encouraged to get a good CGPA - which is important, but not by learning and understanding, but by rotting and vomiting into he exams.

But, and I say the but loudly, there are some students who are so much into their subjects that they find one way or the other to pursue that and become a class engineer, so all those students are the ones justifying being in IIT.

I am not saying that others are bad or something, but they are not justifying the essence of why IITs were build. Most of them don't want to learn, just earn, by hook or by crook.

IITs are now more towards center of excellence and less towards center of engineering. Students, who pass out from here become good consultants, analysts, entrepreneurs, writers etc. which is great, because I myself will not be a world class engineer, not even near, so I can't deny the fact about what IIT provide me which I think no other college can provide.

IITs have hardworking people, self motivated people, fantastic environemnet to pursue whatever you want, enormous exposure about things, and many more things which are just great.

The mindset of students is now coming back to bring engineers because I see news in which students from IIT are doing great in India and other countries by building cars, robots, submarine designs etc. and one of my college's seniors have built an efficient water purifier and their startup is going awesome, salute.

The thing is that if we compare IITs to other world class institutions of other countries, they also don't produce all engineers or all inventors, but many from Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Georgia Tech etc. later on become good businessmen, comedians etc.

Obviously, you cannot expect all to become world class engineers because the environment of engineering college is very different than others and that helps a person to grow a lot, helps him realize what he wants to do in life.

My concern is less and less number of good engineers coming out of IITs and that should be taken care of. But, I am glad that the students are now seeing a path towards core engineering also, and that's a good sign.

Hope this helps you.
