Hi Kauahlendra,

Here, in the wave equation A sin (kx-wt), k is a quantity called wave number which equals to 2π/λ.

In this equation presence of k allows us to write the travelling sine wave in a simpler and more elegant form.

Through, k wave speed can also be easily calculated.
