Provisional result means your result can change and is temporary  . Suppose you gave your paper for re checking or your paper has counting mistake, so if your marks are changed so that will be your final result  and if not changed then the old marks will be your final result. 

Dear student, a provisional result is similar to the original result. It is issued when the Original certificate cannot be furnished at that particular time and the students require it for the counselling process. It is used to satisfy that you have actually passed the entrance exam.
