Cut off mark is the minimum mark required for clearing or passing a competitive examination. Candidates are shorlisted for next stage of selection on its basis. It differs from exam to exam with availability of number of vacancies and level of competition. It's role is simple to select those candidates who've done well and eliminate those who have not done well in the conducted examination, it can be for college or job exams as well.
