GATE exam paper will be set for a total of 100 marks. Therefore the actual marks scored by the candidates out of 100 will be the GATE marks. These will be later normalized to arrive at the GATE scores. The highest GATE score is 1000. However, a candidate who has obtained 1000 need not have 100 marks in GATE. The marks after normalization could be 1000 as the calculation will be done after consideration of a lot of factors. There are formulas used ; you can reach this link for all the process :
