Dear aspirant,
There are quite some advantages of qualifying jee mains. It is a preliminary exam for getting into the IITs , NITs ans IIITs. If you are able to crack mains with a decent rank, then you can get your desired branches in the top NITs. Having an NIT in your CV definitely boosts it up. Same for IIITs. You need to crack the second level that is JEE advanced for getting into IITs. If you are deeply interested in an engineering career then you should surely go for it. Paper 2 of JEE mains is for architecture aspirants.
