what is the basic difference in practice between DGO and MD

Hello Aspirants,

There is not much difference between DGO and MD courses. The only difference is the duration of the course, the DGO is a one and a half year course while the duration of the MD course is 3 years. Below I am giving you details about both the courses so it will be easier for you to choose.

DGO,(Diploma in Gynaecology and Obstetrics) ,is a postgraduate level course and the duration of this course is 2 years. This course is designed to prepare medical students in the Obstetrics and Gynecology specialty. It covers subjects such as Basics of Gynecology, Fertility, Diagnosis of Reproductive system, Labor and Fetus Development and so on.

Admission process-

The admission process of both the courses is almost similar to each other. If any aspirant wants to join any one of these courses, then they have to qualify for the entrance test named NEET PG & INI CET.  The NEET PG exam is organized by the National Board of Examinations whereas AIIMS, New Delhi conducts the INI CET exam.Candidates must have a valid MBBS degree or BAMS from a recognized institution. Also, the candidates must have to secure at least 50% or more in the qualifying exams to get admission for this course.

  • The candidates need to create an account or register themselves by entering basic details
  • Fill the application form with the necessary and required details carefully

  • The Fee payment option is available both online and offline mode

  • Download the admit card

  • Prepare yourself properly for the entrance exam and appear for the entrance exam on the date announced by the authority

  • After a couple of week of the exam day, the results are announced and the qualifying  aspirants can move to the next round
  • After this, the student has to go through a counseling process and after that, they can get admission in the Diploma in Gynecology and Obstetrics course

The average course fee of a Diploma in Gynecology and Obstetrics is Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 5,00,000. And the candidates can expect an approximate salary of Rs. 7,00,000 to Rs. 8,00,000.

Whereas the MD stands for Doctor of Medicine. It is a postgraduate level course and this course can be pursued by the candidate who has completed their bachelor's degree in Medicine or MBBS. And the admission is done based on NEET PG and INI CET entrance exams. The duration of this course is 3 years whereas the students are required to choose among the below-mentioned specialization they wish to pursue

  • Medicine

  • Microbiology

  • Forensic Medicine & Toxicology

  • Community Medicine

  • Biophysics

  • Obstetrics & gynecology

  • Pathology

  • Pediatrics

  • Pharmacology

There are many other specialized options available which the medical student can choose as their main subject for the MD course. The fees of MD courses may vary depending on where you are studying whether in government and private institutions. As the fees of government colleges are low as compared to the fee structure of private colleges.

There are many more options available for an MD degree holder. They can work in government, or private hospitals, & nursing homes. They can also open their clinics and can earn a good amount of money. The approximate annual salary of an MD professional can be between Rs. 3 lakhs to Rs. 6 lakhs. This may vary depending on chosen specialization and place of employment.

The syllabus of both the courses are pretty much the same and the future opportunity and the salary are also more or less the same. So now it's up to you which course you want to pursue.

Hello,

DGO is diploma in gynecology and obstetrics. And MD means masters of gynecology. This is the main difference between them. Another thing if you are go for MD gynaecology then you can spend total 3 years and if you go for DGO then you can spend only 1year 6 months. So time duration also matter. And for DGO you have to do in any government hospitals and MD gynecology you can do any government or private hospital. So decision is totally yours. Which one you have to choose.
