Fashion technology degree deals with Apparel production technology, quality management, Garment production, resource planning. The course educated students about the fundamentals in design aesthetics and design elements along with fundamentals of management and product development. It imparts extensive knowledge of raw materials, machineries involved in the manufacturing of apparels.

The course enables students to work with fabrics and also pattern development, garment construction.

Students will also get to explore other domians like Marketing and merchandising. The curriculum also includes E-commerce, Visual merchandising, entrepreneurship, Digital pattern making and Artificial intelligence.

Fashion technology is for students who want to work in production and product development can opt for this course.

Where as Fashion design course is more about the design than production and technology part. the course imparts the knowledge of elements and priniciples of design, Design process, Pattern making, draping and garment construction. It enables the student to be well equipped with design and business of fashion. students are educated to have a focussed approach towards apparel and channelise their creativity and skills towards design and development.

Both the courses are equally dynamic and have great scope in future.

A student cannot apply for both B.des and B.ftech at the same time. It was allowed before 2016 and now its not possible as both the exams are conducted on the same day. B.Des can be applied by any student who complete their 12th standard and of age below 23. Students of Maths, Physics and Chemistry stream are only eligible for B.Ftech. B.Des applicanst need to clear phase 1 i.e CAT and GAT then Phase 2 - situation test where as B. ftech candidates need to give only one written test i.e GAT to clear the exam.

Think about your interests and career goals adn choose the right course wisely.

All the best.

Hey Manaswini.

NIFT offers admission in two types of courses- Bachelors in Design (B.DES) or Bachelors in Fashion Technology( B.F. Tech- Apparel production ).

To be eligible for B. Des course you need to pass your 12th class or equivalent in any stream.

But to be eligible for B.F. Tech ( Apparel Production) you need to pass class 12th boards with Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Hence, you need PCM subjects only for this course but not for admission into B. DES.

Best of luck
