Dynamic Multi Pathing is a software-based solution, whereas hardware multipathing is a hardware-based solution. Hardware multipathing uses specialized hardware, such as a storage area network (SAN) switch, to manage multiple paths to a storage device. DMP is managed by the host-based software which communicates with the storage device through multiple Host Bus Adapters.
