A lifting lever is something which uses basic physic principles to lift heavy weights while applying minimal efforts.  A long bar is either pivoted or supported by a fulcrum(an object used as a support to facilitate a turning motion or partial rotary motion) is held at an appropriate distance from the load initially.  Then the pivot point or the fulcrum is kept in close proximity with the load.  Upon applying certain force from the bar, the load can be lifted efficiently with minimal work done.

Speaking about the effort made, one should understand the relevance between the concepts Workdone, distance and force .  Workdone is is the product of force and distance and hence if the force and distance are more, then the workdone should also increase that requires comparably higher efforts.

Types:

Example:

One of the usual application of Lever is the Wheelbarrow which is usually spotted in construction sites to lift heavier construction items.
