The process by which an individual learns to fit into a group (or society) and behave in a way that the group approves (or society). Socialization is the process of adjusting one's behavior to the standards of a culture or society. Going out and meeting new people or hanging out with friends are examples of socialization.

Primary, secondary, developmental, anticipatory, and resocialization are the five types of socialization. When a child learns the values, standards, and behaviors that should be expressed in order to live according to a given culture, they are socialized.
