The symbool of Luminous Intensity is I ν.

ν denotes a photometric quantity,

Its unit is the candela, an SI base unit (1 cd = 1 lumen/steradian, where the steradian is a measure of solid angle).

An antiquated term for the candela is candlepower.


The brightness of an illuminated surface is measured in candela per square meter.

The SI unit of luminous intensity is Candela which can also be referred as CD. Illuminance is known as the measurement of light falling on a surface whereas the luminous is the light reflected from it and in some cases emitted by it. The unit of electric current is ampere and the unit of thermodynamic temperature is Kelvin.
