Physical Chemistry:

  • Atomic Structure: Covers Bohr’s atomic model, Sommerfeld’s extension, electronic configuration, and quantum numbers. Also, includes emission and absorption spectra, hydrogen spectrum, de Broglie’s theory, and Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle.
  • Chemical Bonding: Explores the hybridization of atomic orbitals involving s, p, and d orbitals.
  • Thermodynamics, Chemical Equilibrium, and Chemical Kinetics: Involves the laws of thermodynamics, chemical equilibrium, and factors affecting rates of reactions.

Inorganic and Material Chemistry:

  • s-Block and p-Block Elements: Focuses on the properties and chemical reactivity of alkali and alkaline earth metals, phosphorous compounds, oxides, hydrogen halides, inter-halogen compounds, and xenon fluoride compounds.
  • d-Block Elements: Discusses the general characteristics, electronic configuration, and principles of extraction for first-row transition elements.
  • Coordination Chemistry: Introduces IUPAC nomenclature of mononuclear coordination compounds, isomerism, geometrical isomerism, and theories on coordination compounds.

Solid-State Chemistry and Surface Chemistry:

  • Solid-State Chemistry: Covers lattice, unit cell, types of crystals, and properties of ionic crystals.
  • Surface Chemistry: Explores adsorption, physisorption, chemisorption, and catalysis.

Analytical Chemistry, Electrochemistry, and Environmental Chemistry:

  • Electrochemistry: Includes redox reactions, metallic and electrolytic conductance, Faraday’s laws, ionic product of water, pH, and pH– buffer solutions.
  • Environmental Chemistry: Addresses environmental pollution in the atmosphere, water, and soil.

Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry:

Properties and Chemistry of Functionalized Organic Compounds:

  • Genetics and Evolution: Discusses chromosomes, Mendelian inheritance, chromosomal theory, deviation from Mendelian ratio, and concepts of evolution.
  • Human Health and Diseases: Covers pathogens causing diseases, basic immunology, vaccines, antibiotics, cancer, HIV, and AIDS.
