When you are preparing for Boards, you are also preparing for Jee Main. The syllabus is same. So preparation for your boards will also help you in cracking Jee. Once you are done with the boards syllabus, you can move on to prepare for Jee. Now if you are set on an engineering career with a stream of choice, JEEmatters much more. But you can't ignore Boards. For admission to NITs, IITs etc you need a good percentage.

You'll have to give both of them equal priority as both have their own importance and advantages. JEE is the pathway to your future college. 12th marks also plays a big role in deciding the college. For admission in IITs and NITs a candidate has to score a minimum of 75% percentage. And several institution takes admission on the basis of JEE and board marks both. So both are important.

Every student starts with the aim of IIT but not all can get there . Ever since the procedure of normalisation has been adopted , even boards are very important . JEE MAINS is also one of the biggest exam after JEE ADVANCED . See , CRL rank in JEE MAINS is more dependent on BOARDS .

Either you crack JEE MAINS with a score of 250+ to get to IIITH which give admissions based on mains marks otherwise, to get NITs or NSIT/DTU , you need to have good mains rank .

Rather than seeing them as BOARDS and COMPETITIVE EXAMS ....look at it like you have 4 major COMPETITIVE EXAMS :

1. BOARDS
2. JEE MAINS
3. BITSAT
4. JEE ADVANCED
