Dear Aspirant,

University of California uses the admissions test results not only to measure your academic readiness and performance, but also to help us assess your credentials beyond what we see in your grades.

There are two exams: SAT with Essay and ACT with writing and both the scores have to be submitted.

All international students are required to take either the Writing ACT or the Essay SAT. Self-report your scores to your application and apply the official test results to UC by the specified time limit. Given the large number of applications they obtain from students around the world, we rarely make exceptions to the criteria.

If you have completed all of your secondary school / high school in a country where the language of instruction was not English, you will take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test.

ACT includes a Science section and SAT includes one Math Section on which you may not use a calculator. Both tests are used for merit-based scholarships. SAT consists of Reading, Writing & Language, Math and Essay which is not optional for UC. ACT consists of English, Math, Reading, Science Reasoning and Essay. The time duration is about four hours for both of them which varies because of the different number of reading passages. In ACT, you are allowed to use a calculator. All colleges in the University have different requirement of these scores.
