If you are talking about bachelor's degree then GATE is for master's degree and JEE ADVANCE is the option to get into IITs.
But if you mean for masters then GATE is the exam held by various IITs and IIScs for getting into their colleges to pursue master's degree.

You can appear for GATE after your graduation or in last year of it and can get into an IIT program for Mtech.

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is an online national level examination conducted by IITs for admissions to post-graduate programs like ME, MTech and direct PhD, offered by higher education institutes across India. These institutes include the IITs, IISc, NITs, GFTIs and other Universities in India. GATE 2019 scores will also be used by Public and Private Sector.
