See u r from one of the core branch in the engineering stream so it itself increases a lot no of competition between the applicants. The marks u have scored is sufficient to qualify u through the GATE exam but it is not sufficient for u to get admissioned in the good colleges for pursuing ur higher studies.
Since the level of the paper was low for MECH and EE it will be really difficult for u to get any of the NITs for higher studies as their cut off may be approx 65-70 marks in EE.
