Hello,

GS is General Studies which is present in both prelims as well as mains paper of UPSC syllabus.

In prelims the syllabus of UPSC includes History of India and Indian national movement, Indian and World geography, Economic and social development- sustainable development, poverty,inclusion demographics, social sector initiatives etc,Indian polity and governance-constitution,political system,Current Events nationally and Internationally, General Science,General Issues on environmental ecology,biodiversity and climate change.

In Mains, there are four general studies paper as mentioned below;

GS-I includes Indian Heritage and Culture,History and Geography of the World and Society,
GS-II includes Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations,
GS-III includes Technology, Economic Development, Bio-Diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management,
GS-IV includes Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude

Apart from four GS papers in Mains, there are total nine papers including two optionals, one essay and two language paper.

Greetings, aspirant!

GS stands for general studies in UPSC examinations. This subject has the highest weightage of the subjects and consists of two papers viz. GS-I and GS-II.

The syllabus for GS-1 includes topics such as Indian history and Geography, world history and geography, Current events of national and international importance, economic and social development etc.

The syllabus for GS-2 is more skills oriented, including topics like communication skills and numerical knowledge, decision making, logical reasoning etc.

Hi,

GS means the General Studies aspect of the UPSC exam. It is the foundation of the upsc mains exams. It carries 250 marks. The topics of the general studies are designed in such a way to test the candidate's analytical skills and understanding of the topics.
