Hello Sunny Satwik
Both the fields are related but different in its approach. Architecture is related to designing, review and supervising the projects taken in hand where such projects are to be designed w.r.t to local government regulations and zoning laws.
However in planing the candidate understand the principal of any new settlement. He is responsible to frame the regulation for the city or mega township such as the upcoming smart cities with all required amenities such as the police station, commercial spaces, convenient shopping, universities or schools, cultural facilities such as performing arts facilities, museum etc.
After architecture you can practice your own or under someone. After planning you can work under very few planing firms. So you would need masters in planing for better job and alternatives
In many places they will meet and both an architect and planner will need to work in tendon. The work trends in India are in both fields- in planning as new cities and smart (refurbished) cities are coming up and as architect as these cities will need new building and old cities tear down old structures and make new infrastructure in the place of old ones.
Both the fields need an imaginative, creative mind who will be trained to think rationally and technically to prove feasible and probably solutions or new and newer problem by each day. Both fields have good scope in future, if not in the city where you belong but certainly of you move to newer fields and cities and states. Both would require a lot of hard work and your own intelectual inputs and you'll need to grow in both the fields to out the shine many and make you mark.
However there is a third in between the two i.e Urban Design which is exactly in middle of two presicely the designing streetscapes, detailing urban planing, guidelines and common open spaces .
Thank you for asking and all the best for your future.
Hello Sunny,
B. Arch deals with design and structure at a microscopic level that is the design of individual buildings while B.Plan is on a macroscopic level, developing architectural guidelines for planned areas/cities. B. Arch focuses more on detailing and site-specific details while B. Plan requires a broad understanding of the community and the requirements.
B. Arch is 5 years course, whereas B. Planning is 4 years course.
