Hello Kinjal,

In India Psychology is a relatively new field and is now a days gaining popularity in both, studies and application. Studying psychology can take you to a series of job prospects as mentioned hereafter. he completion of studying Psychology course, candidate has various career opportunities as in;

  • Clinical Psychology
  • Counseling Psychology
  • Health Psychology
  • Teaching and Research
  • Industrial/Organizational Psychology
  • School Counseling
  • Career Counselling
  • Entrepreneur

For pursuing BA in psychology following are the best college options before you:

  •
  • Delhi University (New Delhi)
  • Jamia Milia Islamia (New Delhi)
  • Christ University (Bangalore)
  • Ambedkar University (New Delhi)
  • TISS (Mumbai)
  • Gautam Budh University (Noida)
  • Banaras Hindu university (Varanasi)
  • Aligarh Muslim university
  • Fergusson College (Pune)
  • Christ University (Bangalore)

Earnings; talking with respect to earnings, psychology is a lucrative field especially if you have the skills needed. AtAt t entry level, the remuneration varies approximately from Rs. 15000/- to Rs.18000/-. Established consultants in any of the fields of specialization can earn at an average between Rs.20,000 to Rs.30,000 or even more. you are paid even higher if you start as a school counselor. Clinical Psychologists with Phd who get into counselling and have a lot of experience can earn much more and many will charge on an hourly basis, which turns out to be very lucrative.

And as far as being a PCM student is concerned,  keep in mind Psychology is not just a Humanities subject but also a science. We have B.Sc.degrees in science as well. And I would say that a science stream student does better than arts in this field. You can study psychology with combination of other science subjects in BSc say Maths+physics+psychology. You can study it with arts subjects in BA for example English literature+economics+psychology (that's my graduation combination actually) . I was a PCM+CS student as well and I did pretty well in Psychology in my graduation. So I think having a science background is not a hinderahi rather a blessing for studying psychology and it's scientific methods.

I hope I was of help. Feel free to ask anything anytime.

I wish you a bright future.

In case you want to devote your life to psychology, it would be good that you go with BA with psychology as a subject this will help you in Masters and opens a lot of scope for Research. And if you want you can take up Computer Science and your affection for PCM along with the psychology. Many colleges offer BSc in Psychology. You can pick a subject combination in BSc like Psychology+Computer Science+Maths(or any other maths subject). There one such combination in University of Allahabad.
