Dear Aspirant,

The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is an ongoing National Fellowship Program in Basic Sciences, initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to attract exceptionally highly motivated students to pursue basic science and research careers in science.

The aim of the program is to recognize students with talent and research skills; to help them realize their academic potential; to enable them to pursue research careers in science and to ensure the growth of the country's best research and development scientific minds.

The advertisement for the KVPY Fellowship is published every year in all national newspapers, usually on Technology Day (May 11) and the Second Sunday of July.

The selection of students is made from those studying in the XI-Standard to the 1st year of every undergraduate program in basic sciences, namely B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc., M.S. aptitude for scientific research in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. Special groups / committees are set up at IISc to screen applications and administer an aptitude test at different centers across the world. Depending on the results of the aptitude test, short-listed candidates are asked for an interview, which is the final stage of the selection procedure.

The application for KVPY generally opens in the 2nd week of July 2020 and continues upto the first week of September. The exam takes place in the first week of November and the results are declared in December. After that the candidates are called for interview which happens in the last two week of January.

The exam os online in both English and Hindi language. The questions are objective-type MCQ's. Attempts vary according to the streams. The time duration is 3 hours and the maximum marks awarded in the examination are 100.
