After qualifying the Union Public Service commission examination, selected candidates are sent for training period and after completing their training period they are recruited as IPS officers.

It's not a case that, the IPS officers should join in metropolitan cities or in rural areas as compulsory, but they are appointed on the basis of vacancy in any particular district or City.
