A job at the end of two years of study is foremost in the minds of any MBA aspirant. So it is natural that you want to know the best MBA college as far as placements are concerned. Placements are the return on investments for cracking tough entrance exams and paying a hefty fee, besides two years of rigorous study.

To find this out, the first thing you do is to compare the placement records of colleges that display credible information on their websites. Then you should look at the rankings. Ranking of B-schools is a good indicator of how well the students are placed.

You should also understand the difference between the highest salary package and median salary. Some of the B-schools try to mislead students by highlighting the highest salary package. Don’t make your judgement based on that.

The median salary is the average salary across the latest passing out batch of an MBA college. This may not be 100 percent realistic because some students opt out of placements for various reasons. They may go for higher studies, join a family business or go for a start-up.   Still, median salary is the best measure of placements.

Also find out how many students of the passing out batch got placed and also the percentage of the students placed. This can rule out any fudging of data to inflate the placement statistics.

You should also collect information on profiles of companies visiting the campus and the number of students placed in each industry plus the job profiles offered.  Also find out if the MBA college has a good placement cell   and whether the college has a good standing in the industry.
