The best combination in engineering is still considered to be Computer Science and Engineering (CSE).

Although branches/specializations like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML) or Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AIDS) have a bright future, still the leading branch is CSE core.

Currently, Computer Science Engineering (CSE) is still the most sought-after branch in engineering, mainly due to the high demand for software professionals across industries. However, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML) is gaining fast popularity and value, especially among tech-savvy students interested in emerging fields like data science, AI applications, and automation. It’s more niche and futuristic. Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) is also a strong core branch with good scope in electronics, robotics, telecom, and embedded systems. If your interest is more inclined toward software and tech trends, CSE or AIML is great. But if you like circuits, communication systems, and hardware-software integration, ECE is a solid choice.

Right now, CSE with AI & ML or Data Science is clearly leading in terms of demand, job opportunities, and salary, especially in tech-driven roles like software development, machine learning, data analytics, and cloud computing. While ECE is still a strong choice especially for hardware, embedded systems, and VLSI it doesn’t match the placement stats or growth speed of CSE-related fields. So if you're mainly career- and salary-focused, CSE + AI/ML is the smarter bet in today’s market.
