The recruitment to the CBI officer are mainly through two gateways. The directives and the executives for the department of CBI are chosen from the IPS cadre, so if you wish to be a part of CBI then becoming a IPS can be helpful.

Now if you want to get directly in CBI as Inspector then you need to qualify the SSC CGL examination.

Now either of the examination, require no specific degree as an eligibility. So from any group/stream you can become a CBI officer provided you perform well in the examination of SSC CGL or UPSC CSE as per your choice.
