Hello! Hope you are doing well. According to me, if you get a good engineering college it would be better to get into B. Tceh and then prepare for civil services. You will have a chance to get some other job if not civils. But doing engineering in some random college for namesake is watse. Rather than that you can do a normal degree and then go for civil services. Then you will have more time to prepare for civils than when you were in B. Tech. So, if you wanted do to only civils go for a normal degree or else you can choose B. Tech also. Good luck!

hello jaya lakshmi!!

there is no such thing as best degree for civil services.

the eligibility is that you can have any degree for appearing upsc.

please go through the optional subjects  and syllabus for upsc exam and go through previous years papers for those optionals.

the standard of the optional would be of gradudation and a bit more but less than post graduation.

choose subject which interests you more and read few standard book regarding the subject and then decide.

if you dint complete your graduation or even joined graduation, please focus on upsc previous year and study your graduation subject simultaneously.

remember that "for breaking your teeth any stone is fine".

every subject is of same level.it depends on you on how much seriously you take and prepare beating against all the odds.

if you have any further questions please ask on our platform

thank you :)

Hello Kandru,

Thanks for contacting Careers360.

There is no boundation of choosing a particular course in undergraduate. It is you , who can decide in which subject/course you are comfortable in. Because UPSC demands only authentic graduation degree of any course from any recognized College/University.

Now coming to the other side of the question also. If you see the Upsc Civil Services Examination syllabus , you will observe that mostly they ask from subjects of commerce & humanities like history , geography, economics, political science etc.

So , if you feel comfortable in any of the subjects/courses that may help you in your General Studies paper , optional paper , etc. Then you can go for it.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

hi,

i guess you are interested to know which btech stream is good for civil services. answer is all. because in civil service exam person is test for his/her knowlege about indian history, culture, geography, current affairs and awareness of surrounding.. many doctors, engineers, bsc, bcom, graduates seat for this exam. so take the btech stream as per your interest and study well.. dont think about upsc right now.. and your stream doesnot matter for civilservice exams.
