There is only one National Institute of Technology ( NIT ) in Gujarat. It is the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Institute of Technology ( SVNIT ) located in Surat.

The SVNIT is one of the 31 NITs in India. It is a government institute of national importance. The institute is ranked 71st in best universities in India and 58th in best engineering institutes in India. the institute offers 4 degrees, viz. B.Tech, M.Tech, Dual degree and Ph.D in total 48 courses.

The admission to the undergraduate course is based on the scores obtained in JEE Mains examination and the admissions to the post graduate courses is based on the scores of GATE examination.
