Diffusion is the process that does not depend upon living system.

Diffusion is a slow process , where the molecules move from region of its higher concentration to a region of lower concentration. It is a passive transport mechanism which is non dependent on a living system. But needs or depend on concentration gradient , the permeability of the seperating membrane , temperature and pressure.

The process which does not depend on the living system is DIFFUSION, though it does depend on the permeability of the membrane. The simple meaning fo Diffusion would be movement of a substance from an area of higher concentration to that of lower concentration. This process takes place in liquids and gases and the most common used example is that of an air conditioner. To avoid the air from staying in the room we are sitting, we often close the doors to avoid diffusion.

In the case of plants and plant physiology, the phenomenon is the same and is indicated at the movements of various substances within and outside the plant. This is what helps the plants carry out functions like respiration and photosynthesis. This happens through the cell membrane which is the layer of interface between the two spaces of extracellular and intracellular components. This can happen in both living and non-living bodies unlike the phenomenon of active transportation which takes place in active living bodies only.

Also, it is a passive process as it does not use energy. In living bodies such as ours the oxygen is absorbed through the body and carbon dioxide is taken out of the body in the same way. This happens in all systems for the maintenance of an equilibrium and balancing out particles everywhere. The cell membrane cannot control the entry-exit through diffusion.

Diffusion is the process which does not depend upon living system as it is mentioned in next text book,in Diffusion molecules move in random fashion and it is a slow process because of Diffusion we feel smell,few mineral element reaches root hair.
