Hello Aspirant,

For this you should have done engineering in one of the core streams like Electrical, Mechanical or Civil. You can't apply directly for such positions and therefore you have to appear for examinations conducted by Indian Railways to get job there. In order to crack this examination you should have good knowledge of your stream related subjects like for electrical engineering - circuits and boards, power transmission, tranformers, etc and for mechancal engineering - Heat and thermodynamics, machines, etc. Along with this you should be good at general knowledge also.
