Hello Anurag,

CAT exam mainly comprises of 3 sections.

Quant

Logical Reasoning/ Data Interpretations

English

In Quant sections questions are asked from number systems, asthmatics, algebra, geometry and modern maths

In LR/DI section, main topics are linear arrangements, grid/matrix based, coding decoding, games and tournaments, puzzles

English section would comprise questions of reading comprehension (65-75%), para jumbles, paragraph completion etc.

The level of questions are slightly tougher than bank exams, LR questions are a bit tricky and time consuming.

I wish you all the best.

Hello Anurag.  CAT is an entrance exam, which is a gateway to IIMs. It is conducted by IIM in a rotational pattern by the 7 old IIMs. There are three parts in CAT exams.
1. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
2. Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation
3. Quantitative Aptitude.
In first section, going by pattern of 4 years, there will be 34 questions, each consisting of 3 marks. Out of 34 questions, there will be 24 questions on Reading Comprehension. The Reading comprehension passages are easy reads and understandable. However, the options are extremely close, which makes this part dicey. For remaining 10 questions in this section, questions include parajumble, odd sentence out and para summary. Here questions seem straight forward, but options are close. Hence the questions in first section are easy, but the options are close, which makes this section a spoil party.

In second section, there will be 32 questions. Now going by the pattern of last 2 years, the level of difficulty has gone up drastically. The data interpretation questions are clubbed with logical reasoning which makes this section tough. Gone are the days when graphs and tables were used. This is make or break section.

In third section, there are 34 questions. The level of difficulty has varied from easy to medium in last 3 years. Going by pattern of last 3 years, there are 10-12 questions on arithmetic, 8-10 questions on geometry, 6-8 questions on modern mathematics and remaining questions on algebra.

All the best.
