An Indian Parsi shipbuilder and engineer who belonged to the Wadia shipbuilding family was Ardaseer Cursetjee Wadia. As Ardaseer Cursetjee Wadia was the first person from South Asia to be elected to the Royal Society, the oldest national scientific organization in Britain, and because he was the first person from India to be given responsibility for British employees at the East India Company, where he served as chief engineer, he now has a plaque in his honor.
