IIM A,B,C holds top position in Top Management Institutes In INdia For Doing MBA.

So, to get into those colleges you need to give CAT Exam.

Other top institute also accept other scores via XAT,CMAT,SNAP,NMAT,etc

Hello.The reason behind the popularity of the CAT exam is that it is used for the admission purposes in Indian Institute of Managements.These Institutes are considered elite colleges in the management colleges and the best of the minds study in them.Most of the alumni of IIMs are at senior management positions,which makes them more desirable.Just like JEE is famous for IITs,CAT is famous for IIMs.

First is popularity, the way coaching institutes portray it. And, from where students are aware of it. Secondly, it's global ranking, out of all B-schools in India, IIMAB comes in top 50. And, to get into IIM, you need to give CAT.

But, it's not necessary, in case you want to do HR then aim for TISS-NET. If International Business then IIFT for its MBA-IB flagship program. It depends upon your choice of course. As, IIM Calcutta is known for Finance and Bangalore for Consultancy. Best wishes in case you are giving CAT exam.

CAT is one of the main exams for getting any admission into most of the B schools in India. All major IIMs, FMS, MDI, SPJain, NITIE etc which are believed to be and are the best colleges in India accept CAT score. This is one exam for any college. 

Added to that CAT is a comprehensive test of your verbal ability, Logical reasoning and Quantitative Ability. A combination of these three makes a perfect manager. The time constraint added to it brings out the decision making calibre of the individual as well.
