If you see in India, the scope of Government jobs in Engineering are much higher compared to other services. The recruitment process is also faster. If you wish to go for Government R&D such as ISRO, BARC, DRDO etc then the vacancies are much higher for engineers.

So overall there are multiple scopes in Engineering rather than the package.
