JOSAA Councelling is done in multiple rounds for admission into prestigious colleges like NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. There are usually 6 rounds in JOSAA Councelling.

In first round all seat is allocated to students based on JEE Merit, Choice of student, and other factors. Many students don't accept that seat in first round and they withdraw from that seat for better college. As a result seats remains vacant after 1st round. Those vacant seats are allocated in subsequent rounds.
