Most of the PSUs give a lot of weightage to GATE score. Therefore, try to fetch good marks in GATE and dont think about anything else. They will surely ask you about the gap, so prepare a valid and an authentic reason for the same.But if you are unable to defend the gap, it may decrease your eligibility for selection.
