Dear Ram, EWS Category is applicable for those candidates who brlong to General Category and whose income from all sources is less than 8 lakhs per annum. It is 10% and doesn't fall between SC and ST categories. SC and ST have been from the beginning. EWS is a vertical reservation that is specifically for Unreserved categories. So out of every 100 seats, 27 go to OBC, 15 go to SC, 7.5 go to ST, and 10 go to EWS. Then there is PWD where in 5 seats are alotted to them.    Around 1 lakh seats are being across India to accomodate EWS reservation candidates. IITs alone are coming up with 500 seats in addition. So this is not being taken either from SC or ST or OBC and being given to EWS but this is surpassing already existing 50% quota and increasing it by 10%.

Hey Ch.rsi,

EWS category is for the economic weaker sections of citizens and provides them with upto 10 percent reservations in higher educational institutions. However, this is in addition to the existing reservations system which is 15% for SC and 7.5% for ST while 27% for OBC. In addition to these, 10% would be allocated for EWS. These general category seats could also be claimed by anyone including members of SC/ST/OBC on the basis of merit.

Hope this helps.

hello aspirant,

EWS quota is for those people whose annual income is under 8 lakh. however sc/st is a cast category which we need to fill in every form. and from 2019 most of the form has another column  asking if you are from EWS or not. ews has nothing to do with caste category certificate. you need to apply separately for ews certificate. hope you understand.

as this is the first  year that ews category is established, so it is difficult to predict the percentile
