Hello,

Benzene intermediate is a a positive ion which has broken the pi ring system.

Here's a image to get an better understanding: http://alevelchem.com/img/nitration_benzene.gif

You can  also see two double bonds in the image of Benzene intermediate, so there are two pairs of electrons in pi bonds.

It is a molecular orbital spread over four centres.

Hope this helps and all the best to you!
