Is there not any online tutorials for the preparation of CAT

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 9th Aug, 2019
Dear Naina, CAT is an online examination of 3 hours duration. The questions in the exam will be of MCQ and TITA type totaling 100 questions. MCQ are multiple choice questions, for which candidates get multiple answer choices. Whereas,TITA is Type In the Answer which means you need to write the answer in the text box that is provided. The Verbal Ability section and Data interpretation-Logical Reasoning section have 24 MCQ questions each. Quantitative Ability has 25 MCQ questions totalling up to 75 questions. The Type in the Answer questions are 25 in number.

Each Question has 3 marks and a wrong answer takes away 1 mark. However Type in the Answer questions are exempted from Negative Marking.

First things first, know the syllabus. And go through the previous papers to analyse and prepare a comprehensive plan and set priorities according to the importance of different topics across sections.

Customise your own study plan based on your strengths and weaknesses. Gauge your preparation from time to time by taking mock tests. Solve questions to check your levels of preparation but not to set any targets. Remember, its ok to have cheat days and relax. But make sure you have a plan and stick to it for the next few months because even Rome wasnt built in a day.

There are also many online tutorials like Byju's which help you with online preparation as well.

Hi there Nikhil! Hope you're having a great day.

It's not advisable to skip any subject as Mathematics alone comprises of 15-17 marks each year no matter which stream you prepare for. Well, if you are confident enough to get 100% out of all those subjects you study can give give you an edge then you can go for skipping maths but this is not the case in practical.

Can I prepare +2 Jee Syllabus without +1 Jee Syllabus?

manisha.gupta 8th Aug, 2019

Hello Ishaan,

The syllabus of the exam is based class 11th & 12th mostly so if you are well prepared with your 10+2 syllabus then it will help you to cover the whole exam syllabus.

Here are some preparation tips which can be helpful for you in Exam preparation.

Work on a Time Table: After carefully checking the syllabus of the exam towards creating a perfect timetable which will fit your schedule while leaving enough time to prepare for the examination within the days left.

Divide & Segregate the exam Syllabus: The topics from the Exam syllabus must be divided into easy, tough and very tough so that preparation of the exam is made accordingly.

Make your Basic Concepts Strong: While it is essential to study the topics mentioned in the official syllabus, it is also advised to study the basic concepts well first. By knowing the basic concepts of the units involved in the examination, you will be able to understand each topics well and in depth. This will result in a greater understanding of the topics and will make it simpler for you to study complicated concepts present in the syllabus.

Improve your Weak Points: Stressed over some topics or formulas which you just cannot seem to understand? Give more time and focus on these topics to improve it. Keep small notes and constantly revise those concepts which has been hard to understand. By constantly studying the topics you find difficult.

I have a complete intention of writing CAT, I am just confused on how to start with my preparation , please provide suggestions

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 17th Aug, 2019
  • NCERT books will sharpen your basics and you need strong basics for preparing for any entrance examination. Once your basics are in place, because the time period for preparation is quite less, your preparation should be extensive and thorough.

  • Quantitative Aptitute covers almost 30% of the CAT question paper. QA can be categorised into Arthimetic, Algebra, Geometry and Advanced Mathematics. Practise chapter by chapter and develop mental calculations. Like practise more of basic summation, substraction, fractions and tables. Numbers, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Simple and Compound Interest, Ratio, Proportionality, Time-Distance, Time-Work, Mixtures, Averages, Partnership, Permutation and Combinations, Probability, Set Theory, Progression and Series, Line, Angles, Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Polygon, Circles, Ares, Volume, Height and Distance, Co-ordinate Geometry, Basic Trigonometry are few important topics.

  • In Verbal Ability session, command on your English, Grammar, Vocabulary, Understanding of the given parapgraph are of more importance. Reading English NewsPaper will also help you in your preparation.

  • Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning needs to be practised as much as possible. Comparision of data, Data Analysis, taking clues, interpreting missing data, coming to conclusions and making future projections will be covered under this Category. The questions here are inter linked and so if you get one formula correct, cracking the next few questions will be easy. So its important to memorise and practise formulae. You should cover topics like Data tables, Data Charts, Bar Diagrams, Pie Charts, Graphs, Data Comparision and Analysis.

  • We can recommend few books for you:

NCERT books to cover the basics from 6th to 10th Class

Quantitative Aptitude for CAT by Nishit Saxena

Quantitatuve Aptitude Quantum for CAT by Sarvesh Sharma

How to prepare for Quantitative Aptitude for CAT by Arun Sharma

Quantitative Aptitude for Competitive Exams by Abhijit Guha

How should droppers prepare for IIT JEE?

Sriya Bose Student Expert 7th Aug, 2019
Hello Aspirant!

Since you are a dropper, you have the advantage of being aware about the entire syllabi as well as the difficulty level of each and every topic. And if you have given the JEE MAINS once, then you must also be aware of the question paper pattern. This knowledge is going to help you in strategizing your preparation.
  • The latest trend is to join a suitable coaching institute. It isn't necessary, if one wants, he or she can prepare on his or her own too. However, coaching institutes make the process of preparation easier. Choose the coaching institute based on the following criteria: FACULTY, COMMUTATION. If required, ask your seniors and friends for suggestions.
  • Work on your weaknesses. Keep revising the topics you are strong at, everyday.
  • Solve a lot of MCQs.
  • Do relax in between.
    • Be consistent.
