How can a hindi medium student do preparation for TIFR entrence exam (specially interview) for m.sc. integrated Phd maths ?

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 10th Mar, 2020

Admission to Integrated Mathematics programmes consists of 2 stages. The 1st stage is an entrance examination. The syllabus and exam pattern are enlisted at: http://univ.tifr.res.in/gs2020/Files/Maths_Syllabus.pdf . The exam pattern is MCQs and True or False. The syllabus includes topics like Algebra, Analysis, Toplogy and General. The chapter wise topics are available in the link. You need to practise them in English if not for the entrance exam but atleast for studying Masters. This is because the medium of instruction will be in English. During the interview, they do not check your communication skills but they check for your subject knowledge. So they might understand that you are coming from Hindi Medium and might be okay if you answer questions in Hindi too. But should you be shortlisted for Interview, please ask their permission if you can answer in Hindi.

is one year is enough for Jee main preparation??

Rahul Student Expert 28th Jan, 2020
Hello aspirant,

Well I will tell you my opinion on the question you asked. I personally believe that any All India level competetitive exam in India requires atleast 2 years for full fledged preparation. But, again there ate students you scored really good by only studying for 1 year likewise there are students who couldn't crack jee mains even after taking long term. So, it solely depends upon you problem solving ability.
But,honestly I would highly suggest you to prepare for 15 months since you will require atleast 3 months for revision programme.

Neverthless just concentrate on your studies properly regardless of how much ever time is left for you.

could you please tell me the best authour for cat preparation???

Kanupriya Gupta 28th Jan, 2020

Dear Aspirant,

Preparing for CAT is a step towards fulfilling your dream of an MBA, so how you choose to prepare becomes the deciding factor of your exam. It is not an easy exam because of being one of the most competitive exams in the country. So here are some basic steps to prepare and ace it!

Know the exam pattern and syllabus in detail : The duration of the exam is 3 hours and you will roughly have an hour to complete each section. This will be a computer-based test with a total number of 100. Each correct answer will secure 3 marks and there will a negative marking of 1 mark for every wrong answer. There are three sections: Quantitative Ability (QA), Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC) and Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR). Out of this DILR will have 32 questions and the other two sections, i.e., QA and VARC will have 34 questions. There will be 7-10 non MCQ type questions in each section.

The syllabus is-

DILR- Bar Graphs, Caselets, Column Graphs, Tables, Blood Relations, Calendars, Cubes, Clocks, Number and Letter Series, Binary Logic, Seating Arrangement, Line Charts, Venn Diagrams, Pie Chart, Combination of two or more types linked to each other, Syllogism etc.

QA- Trigonometry, Arithmetic, Higher Maths, Mensuration, Algebra, Geometry, etc.

VARC- English Usage or Grammar, Jumbled Paragraph, Close Passage, Verbal Ability, Reading Comprehension, Synonyms Antonyms, Verbal Reasoning, Facts-Inferences-Judgements etc.

Choose your study material wisely : To prepare for CAT, here are some books you can consider.

  • NCERT books from class 6th to 10th
  • Quantitative Aptitude for CAT by Nishit Saxena
  • Quantitative Aptitude Quantum CAT by Sarvesh Sharma
  • How to Prepare for Quantitative Aptitude for the CAT by Arun Sharma
  • Quantitative Aptitude for Competitive Examinations by Abhijit Guha
  • High School Grammar and Composition by Wren and Martin
  • Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis
  • How to Prepare for Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension for the CAT by Arun Sharma and Meenakshi Upadhyay
  • Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension For The CAT by Nishit Sinha
  • Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation for the CAT by Nishit Sinha
  • A Modern Approach to Logical Reasoning by R.S. Agarwal
  • How to Prepare for Logical Reasoning for CAT by Arun Sharma

Other than this, solve question papers . Find one of the question banks here:

https://bschool.careers360.com/articles/cat-sample-paper

This will help you analyse your progress so far and what are your strengths and weaknesses and aid your course of preparation.

Be sincere, confident and dedicate your time religiously to the discourse of preparation. Be with people who motivate you to move forward in this discourse and use the internet for guidance from time to time.

Hope this helps. All the best!

What should be my preparation strategy from Today onwards so that i become ready for a good score in jee mains and jee advanced if my jee main January score was 67.8 percentile.

Ayush 27th Jan, 2020
Hello!
The key strategy that one should follow to improve performance in any exam is to identify his weak areas and they can only be found by thorough practice of those topics. The following are a few guidelines you can follow for improvement of your performance in jee mains-
  • Solving past year papers of atleast last 10 years
  • Finding your strong and weak points through past year papers and then devoting your time accordingly
  • If by chance any topic remains unstudied in the vicinity of exam date than better than covering that topic revise your strong points and forget about that topic.
  • Every topic has different weightage, try to cover those topics which have more weightage like conic section in maths, mechanics and optics in physics etc.
  • Some topics which are there in jee mains are not in jee advanced like semiconductor, linear programming, reasoning etc so for advanced study smartly with knowledge of syllabus.
Careers 360 has came up with a new structured mock test+counselling related help content specially for that purpose you can also check out on that via-

where can I get syllabus of jeecup of group k [Information technology (lateral entry)] and also preparation book?

Suryashis Chakraborty 26th Jan, 2020

Hello Almas,

JEECUP happens to be the official gateway to the UP Polytechnic College. JEECUP 2020 is divided into groups (A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I, J and K) and the syllabus and the exam pattern differs from course to course. JEECUP is going to be held in offline mode. 100 questions are to be asked with the students needing to complete them in 3 hours.

For Group K5 (Information Technology), the syllabus is expected to be based on ITI (2 year’s course) trade-wise and Class 10 th , 11 th & 12 th as per the course syllabus of the UP Board.

Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will carry a weightage of 40% while Information Technology will carry a weightage of 60%.

Since topics in JEECUP 2020 are mostly based on the UP Board Syllabus for Class 10 th & 12 th , the textbooks prescribed by the board are recommended.

Moreover, there are a few books available which can guide one properly:

1. Uttar Pradesh Polytechnic Entrance Exam by Dr. Lal and Jain

2.  UP Polytechnic  Entrance Exam Guide by Vidya Editorial Board

3. Uttar Pradesh  Polytechnic  Exam Physics/Chemistry/ Mathematics with Previous Years' Solved Papers by Arihant Publications

Hope this helps. Careers360 wishes you the best for your future endeavours!

can I crack ipm from 1 months preparation? I.e. after my board exams

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 25th Jan, 2020

IPMAT has 2 sections Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal Ability. Now QA has 60 marks allotted and VA has 40 marks. Each correct answer gets you 4 marks and a wrong answer takes away 1 mark in the form of negative marking. Though there has been no official release of any syllabus, based on examinations over the years, it has been concluded that few topics are the most covered,

QA:

Number system, LCM & HCF, Percentage, Quadratic Equations, Binomial Theorem, Functions, Mensuration, Permutation and Combination, Probability, Profit, Loss and Discounts, Simple and Compound Interest, Progressions, Ratio and Proportion, Mixtures and Alligations, Logarithms, Time, Speed and Distance, Time and Work, Trigonometry, Geometery, Problems on Ages, Series and Unitary Method, Set Theory, Data Interpretation and Equations.

VA:

Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Sentence Rearrangement, Sentence Correction, Sentence Completion, Correct Usage of words and phrases and verbal analogies.

To prepare all these topics, you need to practise as many as sample papers as you can.

2 books that are available in the market and are best are:

1. Crack the IIM Indore IPM by DueNorth Academy

2. Wiley's ExamXpert IIM-IPM by Wiley India.
