I score 56% in BA graduation degree and i am in general category. Now i am able to give CLAT exam and get admission in NLU?

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 18th Nov, 2019

CLAT is for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes. For CLAT PG, you should possess a Bachelor's degree in Law. But because your highest qualification is BA and that is not a law degree, you are not eligible for CLAT PG. But now talking about CLAT UG, you need to have completed your 10+2 with a minimum aggregate of 45%. It is 45% for General Category and 40% for Reserved Categories. As there is no upper age limit for CLAT, you can appear for CLAT UG. Not based on your BA qualification but based on your 12th qualification. I have completed BA and now i want to do LL.B. Can i give CLAT exam and study in NLU.

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 18th Nov, 2019

Rakesh, if you want to study LLB, it is a Bachelor's degree and with already a BA degree under your belt it will be a slight detour. For studying LLB, you should appear for CLAT UG. The eligibility for CLAT UG is that you should have completed your 10+2 with a minimum aggregate of 45%. It is 45% for General Category and 40% for Reserved Categories. And there is no upper age limit for CLAT. So you can appear for CLAT and pursue LLB from any NLU. Sanjanaleekha 13th Nov, 2019

Hi there,

As per the recent notification for CLAT 2020 there is no upper age limit to appear for CLAT at UG and PG level, although NLU's have there separate eligibility criteria in regard upper age limit like NLSIU has upper age limit of 20 in case of general category for admission in UG programme, so I would suggest you to visit the website of the NLU for which you are aiming and check the eligibility criteria of the same, other necessary details in regard eligibility is given in the link below,

I am going for a CLAT exam next and I am majorly focusing on private institution rather than NLUs, so will they accept my percentage of 44.66% instead of the eligibility criteria which is 45%.

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 30th Oct, 2019

Dear Sara, even before things move to admission process, for you to be eligible for CLAT, you should have secured a minimum aggregate of 45%. It is 45% for General and OBC Categories and its 40% for Reserved Categories. And unfortunately, the aggregate cannot be rounded off to the nearest digit. You have to earn it rightfully if we may say so. You have to appear for improvement exams to secure the required aggregate. It is tough to sit for improvement exams just for few decimals but unfortunately that is the only way you can be eligible for CLAT and seek admission even if it is a private institution.
