(A) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A

Sound waves are longitudinal in nature and light waves are transverse in character. Moreover light wave is electromagnetic in nature. That's why light waves do not need a material medium for its propagation. Moreover sound wave requires material medium for it's propagation.
