To find the empirical formula for the composition you have asked is :

  • C = 54.55% ÷ 12 = 4.55
  • H = 9.09% ÷ 1 = 9.09
  • O = 36.36% ÷ 16 = 2.27

Now, divide all these with the smallest value obtained in the calculation (2.27):
C = 2, H = 4, O = 1

The Empirical formula of the compound is: C2H4O

To find the empirical formula he composition you have mentioned is :

1. C = 54.55% / 12 = 4.55

2. H = 9.09% / 1 = 9.09

3. O = 36.36% / 16 = 2.27

Now, divide all these with the smallest value obtained in the calculation (2.27) :
